“Your bodyguard is here again,” Max murmured, his amusement sparkling in his green eyes.

Jem Peacock didn’t follow his brother’s gaze. He refused to look over to the other booth in the VIP section of Peacock. He knew what he’d see. The bodyguard in question had been in their club every night for weeks.

“And this time he brought company. Mmmm, pretty.” Max was practically salivating.

Jem held back a growl. “They’re all loved-up, Maxy. Don’t even think about it.”

“Don’t call me Maxy, Jezza. There’s only one boy there. The rest are all big and burly. Yummy.” Max licked his lips.

Jem rolled his eyes. “As I said, all loved up.”

“Except your bodyguard, poor lamb. Sitting there all by himself. He looks so lonely.”

“He’s not my bodyguard.” Jem scowled at Max’s gleeful expression, but he kept his tone cool, knowing his brother would pounce on any sign of weakness. “And he’s certainly not a lamb.” There was nothing soft about Griff Carlton. He was all hard muscle. “He’s not my type.”

Max scoffed at him. “Oh, little brother, you can lie to yourself, but you can’t lie to me. Griff is so your bodyguard. How many nights has he been in here since you met him?”

“I don’t know.” Jem glared at his brother, but it didn’t take the wicked grin off Max’s face, and Jem knew what he was going to say.

“Every night. Your boy has been here every single night for the past two months.”

“He’s not my boy.” Jem held back a shiver. Griff may be years younger than Jem, but he was definitely not a boy.

“No,” Max drawled. “He’s certainly not your boy. Your Daddy, perhaps?”

Review

“You’re a boy whisperer.”

This fourth book in the Biker Daddy Bodyguards series is another gem. These books are a delicious mix of high adrenaline adventure and sweet love and it's a mixture I love losing myself in.

To a casual observer, aka the reader, it is clear from the start that Griff and Jem are made for each other. But Jem has a hard time admitting his needs and desires, even to himself, and Griff isn’t the sort of Daddy to force a boy to acknowledge his longings, no matter how badly he wants to meet them.

It’s not as if Griff and Jem are given a lot of time to explore each other and what they could be together. Events unfold fast and furious right from the start. With Jem’s brother and business partner in hospital, fighting for his life after being shot in Jem’s apartment, Griff and the other Biker Daddy Bodyguards move into full protective mode, sweeping a scared and confused Jem up in their protection. With nobody knowing whether Max or Jem was the intended target, Griff is put in charge of keeping Jem safe.

As the mystery surrounding the shooting deepens, Jem is torn between concern about his brother and their club and the attraction he feels for Griff. He yearns to give into the needs of his inner boy but, having been hurt in the past and feeling shame about some of his preferences, he is reluctant to open up to Griff. All Griff can do is pay attention and give Jem what he says he needs. He knows there’s more to explore but is reluctant to push Jem since trust takes time to build and they’re only together a few days by the time things come to a head.

My heart broke when everything appeared to fall apart at the same time for Jem and soared when the seemingly impossible was achieved, bringing happiness to all involved and, most importantly, Jem and Griff.

Unlike the two previous titles I read, this story was more about indulging the boy in Jem than about sexy-time between him and Griff. But, given the short time scale and Jem’s history, this was perfect and didn’t take anything away from the beauty of their growing connection; quite the opposite in fact.

Overall, I have to say that Sue created another winner, both with this book and with the series as a whole. If you like your Daddies caring and dominant and your boys needy yet strong, I urge you to read the Biker Daddy Bodyguards Series now!

Review

Aahhh. Just what the doctor ordered. A grumpy older Daddy, a younger, very bratty billionaire oblivious to the fact that he’s a boy. Snarky remarks fly while Mo tries to keep Joseph safe and Joseph pretends that he’s in charge, rather than Mo until proximity and the men’s true natures take over and slowly but securely and sexily push them together.

The combination of mystery, tension, heat, and romance is just about perfect in this one. I successfully guessed who was out to kill Joseph, but that didn’t take any fun or suspense out of the story. Quite the opposite in fact. Being fairly sure where the danger was coming from meant I could focus all my attention on Mo and Joseph finding their way to each other and establishing their dynamic. Since their developing relationship was glorious, that was time well and very satisfactory spent.

This was the second Biker Daddy Bodyguards book I read. For some reason, I missed the second book. I guess I’ll have to make up for that oversight in the not too distant future. For now, all that remains is for me to highly recommend this book and this series. You won’t regret spending a few afternoons with these magnificent Daddies and their beautiful boys.

Review

I've been a huge fan of Sue Brown's books for some time and I have to say, she hit it out of the ballpark again with Hold Firm. Quinn is the most delicious be it somewhat reluctant, Daddy while Cade takes being a brat to new heights. But there are reasons. Reasons for Cade's behaviour, and reasons why Quinn tries to keep his distance. Their journey from professional relationship to intimacy had me in turns on the edge of my seat and hot and bothered. And, talking about the edge of my seats, as if these two men, who were clearly made for each other, and their coming together weren't captivating enough, there's danger lurking in the background, waiting for the right moment to strike. I'm delighted this is only the first book in this series. Bring me the next Biker Daddy Bodyguard, please.

Review

Alpha Home starts with a bang and breaks the readers’ as well as Si’s heart, before settling down to fix the mess created on the initial pages. It’s impossible not to have your heart break for Si. He may come across as and be proud of his image as a hard man, but no amount of tough attitude can protect him from the heartbreak he experiences when Howie, the man he thought he would marry, breaks up with him.

Two years apart have failed to repair Si’s shattered hard and when an injury puts an end to the only career he’s ever known and loved, he returns to J.T.’s Bar and the man who rejected him, hoping to salvage at least one part of his life.

I loved that, from the start, it is clear that Howie is no happier to apart from Si, even if he did create the distance between them. Howie is such a good man. All he ever wanted was to look after those he loves. When caring for his (homophobic) mother proves incompatible with loving Si, he made the decision that shattered both Si’s and his own heart. Now, with Si back and his mother no longer alive, Howie and Si have a chance again, provided they can overcome the bruised feelings between them and figure out who is trying to hurt Howie before the attacks end up killing him.

Alpha Home was a wonderful combination of tension and romance with a smidgen of angst thrown in for good measure although, thankfully, the separation part of the story wasn’t lingered on. The journey Howie and Si make back to each other is a thing of beauty. Wonderfully paced, it never feels rushed or drawn out while feelings of betrayal aren’t glossed over either. The image of these two big, powerful men, who are so perfect for each other is painted with such clarity it is now imprinted on my mind. The interactions between the various covert-ops team members is delightful, riveting, and heartwarming and the mystery as to who is out to get Howie keeps the tension high and the pages turning themselves. 😊

I somehow managed to miss reading the second book in this series, and while I have no doubt prior knowledge of that story would have clarified some minor plot points in this book, I can’t say I ever regretted rushing in to reading Alpha Home.

Long review short: Alpha Home is a wonderful combination of romance and suspense; a perfect choice if you’re looking for a quick and smooth read to lose yourself in.

Last Place in the Chalet by Sue Brown - Release Day Review

Review

Last Place in the Chalet is about as Christmassy as a story can possibly get. For starters, the tale is stuffed full of Christmas references. From the character’s names—Noel, Angel, Maria, Three Wise Men—, to the ‘no room in the inn’ confusion, the festive seasons sparkles from these pages.

This story starts with all the sads. Poor Noel, being dumped just before he was going to bring his partner on a skiing trip during which he wanted to propose. It’s hardly surprising Noel is devastated and short with others for the rest of the day, except that from the moment he boards his plane there’s Angel, who, although a stranger, manages to calm and comfort Noel with small acts of understanding and kindness. From that moment forward, coincidence, the weather, and their fellow-house guests conspire to push Angel and Noel together and, with the aid of a little seasonal magic, the two men fall hard and fast.

Yes, there’s definitely a strong insta-love theme to this story but given that it’s a Christmas tale I had no problems suspending disbelieve and just losing myself in the delightful descriptions of Angel and Noel’s coming together. Besides, Noel is well aware how fast his feelings are developing and initially very reluctant to trust the attraction.

Maybe this is more a fairytale than a romance in so far as everything that happens appears to be ordained, and meant to be. But what could be more magical and Christmassy than two men who are obviously made for each other coming together and finding each other while surrounded by seasonal magic.

Last place in the Chalet is the ultimate feel-good read and perfect for the holiday season. I challenge anyone to read it without a huge smile stretched across their face from start to finish.

Review

Slow Dating the Detective is the third and, as far as I know, last installment in the Cowboys & Angels series, and it’s a delightful, at times touching and often steamy, read.

To be fair, it should be surprising I use the word delightful because these two men are guilty of committing what I consider a most serious relationship crime, not communicating, for the longest time.

But let me start at the beginning and the meeting of two men who are obviously attracted to each other, but don’t get the opportunity to act on it. The frustration of that first encounter appears to be something that will stay with them, even once they do meet up and act on that attraction. There’s no doubt these two men find it impossible to ignore each other, but it’s just as clear neither of them is sure what to make of that fact.

Keenan is a charming but somewhat broken man, who’s lost a lot of his confidence after an accident that also ruined his career and future plans. When he also loses his current job, his life appears to spin out of control until he’s offered a job in Cowboys & Angels.

Nate is a bit more of a dark horse in this book since the story is told from Keenan’s perspective and we only get to guess at his motives, thoughts, and feelings. Nate makes it perfectly clear that he doesn’t date, and Keenan takes his word for that, despite the fact that they spend more and more time together going on what closely resembles…dates.

What follows is a process of one step forwards two steps back that leaves Keenan questioning everything: Nate, his feelings, what he wants, and what he is prepared to put up with. As is so always the case, Nate and Keenan need a shocking and devastating crisis as well as a good talking to from people close to them before they open their eyes, trust their hearts, and, at last, start talking about things that matter.

As I said, this was a delightful read. It was wonderful to reconnect with characters from Speed Dating the Boss and the cast of secondary characters, young and old, were vivid and charming. While there were one or two moments I would have loved to hit Nate and Keenan’s heads together to get them to see sense, there far more moments when I smiled

or even laughed out loud, making this book a well-rounded and hard to put down read. And if one thing is never in doubt it is that these two men are very well matched in general and made for each other when it comes to sex, leading to several enticing and rather hot scenes.

Long story short, I thoroughly enjoyed this story from start to finish.

I just discovered, to my shock, that I somehow managed to miss reading Secretly Dating the Lionman, which is an oversight I intent to fix shortly.

“You could always cook for yourself,” Peter pointed out drily.

After two weeks Evan had a small stock of recipes to try at home.

“What would be the fun in that when there’s a perfectly good Chinese in the fridge? Is one of those for me?” Evan held his hand out for one of the beers Peter clutched to his chest.

“No, I’m going to drink both and leave you to go thirsty.”

“I’ll take your chilli beef,” Evan threatened.

“Mmmm, nice cold beer.”

Peter pretended to drink from one of the bottles, although the cap was still on. The next thing he knew he was pinned against the fridge, still holding the bottles above his head, and staring up into fierce charcoal-dark eyes.

“I—” Peter stopped, his mouth dry. Evan’s body pressed into every inch of him.

“I want my beer,” Evan growled.

Every nerve in Peter was tingling. He couldn’t help his reaction to feel of Evan forcing him against the fridge door. And the growl. Jesus. The growl washot. Peter’s heart pounded, knowing he was hard, and he felt an answering hardness against his belly. He wanted to push against Evan’s arousal, to relieve the ache.

“Take me… one,” Peter said.

Evan stepped away from him so quickly Peter almost dropped the beer bottles. “I… Fuck, I’m sorry, Pete.”

Peter thrust a bottle at him. “Here.”

Evan fumbled with the bottle opener, the lid flicking onto the floor. Peter watched as he virtually downed the contents in one go.

“Better?” At some point Peter was going to be able to manage more than one word sentences.

“Yeah.” Evan wiped his mouth with the back of his hand. “No. I’m really sorry. I didn’t mean to scare you.”

“You didn’t,” Peter said automatically.

“No?”

“No. Well, more shocked. I’m not used to being manhandled.”

“You’re more used to doing the manhandling?”

“Not really,” Peter said sadly.

Evan nodded. “I understand.”

He probably didn’t but that was okay. Peter wasn’t sure he understood himself. All he knew was that Evan’s manoeuvre had left him breathless, and he wasn’t sure why.

Bob, the Destroyer of Leads #2

Bob, a beagle with a very bad attitude. He eats through every lead purchased by his despairing owner, Will Duffy. One moment he is walking to heel, the next he is a free dog, triumphantly tearing down the road with Will chasing after him.


It's a great game for Bob until the day he breaks through lead number ten and is hit by Lawrence Taylor's car as he runs across the road, leaving Bob unconscious and his back leg broken. Will has to ask Lawrence for a lift to the vets, and endure the man's scolding all the way there. Even worse, Will discovers Lawrence is a dog trainer!


Bob ends up in a cast and is forced to wear the cone of shame. Of course, Lawrence thinks all Bob and Will need are dog training classes, except Bob hasn't met a trainer yet he couldn't break. Is Lawrence man enough for the job?

“Will, wait up.”

Will looked over his shoulder to see Lawrence jogging towards him. “Hi, what are you doing here?”

“Waiting for you, obviously. I thought you got out at five.”

Lawrence took a deep breath. “I’m sorry I snapped. When you didn’t come out I was worried I’d missed you.”

“I do, but I take on private clients too. Some dogs don’t react well in a group situation.”

“Do you make a good living from training dogs?”

Lawrence nodded. “Good enough. I don’t need a lot to get by.”

“And you want to train Bob?”

“If I say yes, will that start another argument?” Lawrence asked cautiously.

Will snorted. “Three days ago I’d have said yes, but after watching Bob run out into the road, I think I need your help.”

“Good. I’m really pleased to hear you say that.”

“Of course, Bob will eat you alive.”

Lawrence snorted. “What did you say? You’d never met a trainer that Bob couldn’t break?”

“He has that reputation,” Will said. “He’s been banned from three dog training classes, and the other two suggested Bob might be happier somewhere else.”

“He seems quite placid and friendly at the moment.”

“I don’t think he’s got over the anaesthetic. He is never this quiet.” Will missed ‘his’ Bob. This quiet dog wasn’t the same.

Hazel Takes Over #3

After the death of his beloved dog, Harry, Peter Mitchell refuses to consider getting a new dog. Besides which, Peter has his hands full with his partner, Dr Evan Wells. The vet is surprisingly sensitive about Peter’s feelings and doesn’t nag Peter about getting a pet. Of course, not nagging and not doing anything about it are two different things, at least in Evan’s mind.


When Peter is presented with a small red bundle of fur to hold, he realises the devious vet planned their new arrival and worse, she’s already got a name. Peter may not have a choice about their dog, but he’s going to put his foot down over her name. He should know better.

Excerpt - Hazel Takes Over

Peter awoke, overheated, stifled, and trapped on both sides. Evan was wrapped around him as usual; the man was a human teddy bear. This time he’d managed to pin Peter to the bed so he couldn’t move at all. Peter stayed where he was, not bothering to open his eyes as he dozed contently until the call of nature became too great. Half-heartedly and still with his eyes closed, Peter wriggled to free himself, and received a grumble in both ears.

He frowned. Evan was his superman but even he couldn’t manage stereo conversation. Neither did he have a wet nose. Peter cracked open one eye, to find as he expected Evan was spooned up behind him, still whuffing gently as he slept. Bright eyes and a huge smile greeted him instead.

“How did you get here, trouble?” he asked, stroking Hazel’s back.

“Hmmm? Haven’t had time to get into trouble yet,” Evan muttered.

“Not you. Ms Hazel here. You gave in, huh?”

“Huh?” Evan leaned over him. “Hazel, how did you get here?”

Peter tilted his head to look Evan. He had to give the man credit for being a good actor. He looked genuinely surprised to see Hazel lying on the bed. “I wonder,” he said drily. “It’s amazing how she managed to open the kitchen door, climb the stairs and get on the bed.”

Dan had been Jesse’s partner for many years, and always there for Jesse on his return from difficult assignments. However, after breaking his promise not to leave again, Jesse learns to his cost that Dan can be pushed too far. Excerpt - Stormin' Norman

The barman gossiped about the recent gas explosion in the pub down the road Jesse listened with half his attention, keeping an eye on the dark-haired bloke in the corner.

The man didn’t disappoint. As soon as Jesse had his beer, he came over and sat on the bar stool next to Jesse. To give him credit, he didn’t piss about.

“Hi, I’m Dan.”

Jesse assessed him carefully. He was older than he’d appeared in the shadows—early forties maybe, the start of lines around his eyes and a sprinkle of grey at his temples. Not Jesse’s type. Jesse was in his mid-thirties. He usually went for men younger than him, searching for uncomplicated hook-ups and nothing more.

“Hi.” Jesse didn’t say any more, hoping his off-hand tone would tell the guy he was wasting his time.

Dan ordered another beer and turned back to him. “I haven’t seen you in here before.”

“I’ve been away.”

“Do you want a beer, a chat, and then see what happens?”

His approach caught Jesse’s attention. Normally blokes started off with “Do you wanna fuck me?” Nine times out of ten Jesse said no.

“I’m not the marrying kind,” Jesse said.

Dan blinked. “I asked you for a beer, not a ring.”

Jesse shrugged. “You’re older than me. I thought I’d get that off the table.”

“Thanks,” Dan said drily. “So all older men are desperate for a ring and kids. I’ll remember that next time I ask for a hook-up. I’ll only go for the younger twinks.” He got up and smiled sadly at Jesse. “Sometimes a beer is just a beer.”

Dan walked back to where he’d been sitting.

“He’s a nice guy,” the barman said.

Jesse frowned. “What?”

“Dan. He’s decent and he’s not looking for anything from you.”

“You overheard that?”

Sean nodded as he wiped the bar down. “He’s a great bloke. A little shy. He comes in here most days for lunch. It would have taken a lot of courage for him to talk to you. You could have just said no.”
