Naked Weekend (Naked, Book 1) by Roe Horvat

Blurb

It was supposed to be a casual threesome. Yeah, right. Those kisses are anything but casual, and the third guy is nowhere to be found. Neill should have known their friend set them up. But even as he ends up naked in the tall stranger’s arms, he can’t find any reason to regret anything.

From the first moment, Danny knows he could easily fall for Neill. All these little contradictions fascinate him: Neill’s passionate and playful one moment, and the next second he withdraws into himself, cautious. What made him that way? And how can Danny convince the beautiful boy to stay?

Review

Wow.

Roe Horvat did it again. I have no idea how he does it, but he weaves some kind of special magic with his words. On the surface, this story is pure erotica with steamy, vivid, and imaginative sex on most if not every page. And while all of that is nothing short of delicious, Naked Weekend is so much more than just two hot men making the most of being naked.

I’m amazed how much the author manages to tell us about Danny and Neill through their sexual encounters over the course of one weekend. Not only did I get to know them, I also fell for them, hard and fast. But then, maybe that’s the result of being naked. You can’t hide when you fully expose yourself. I have no idea if the idea behind the ‘Naked’ series went beyond the writing of hot stories, although I’m inclined to think it probably was. But whatever the author’s intention was, for me the set-up of this novella meant that I could see Danny and Neill fully, without barriers or pretense, both inside and out.

Yes, Danny and Neill fall for each other hard and fast; all it takes is that one naked weekend and a few hours of contemplation. But you won’t find me complaining about insta-love. It is clear from the very start that these two are made for each other. Their journey from strangers to lovers stepping into a relationship was as heart-warming as it was hot. They took my breath away while I was reading and now, days later, I still smile when I think about them. And that is exactly what a good story should do.

Blurb

It could have been just an innocent crush. Something guiltless and fleeting. But Luke spends every day with Marcus; they talk, touch and dance together, they create and perform together. They know each other inside out. As a consequence, Luke has been in love with his very much taken choreographer for years. Seeing Marcus and his partner Liam together has become increasingly painful, and Luke needs to leave. His dancing career is nearing an end anyway. He will start university, reinvent himself, forget Marcus and find happiness elsewhere.

Except Marcus loves him back. And Liam knows. Liam’s dark eyes and his imposing silhouette begin haunting Luke’s dreams. Drowning in both lust and sadness, Luke is swept into a passionate triangle with two men who couldn’t be more different. Suddenly, instead of fear or caution, there’s just a mind-numbing desire for more.

Review

“This is how I look when I’m happy.” – Luke

Third One is the third book (but fourth story) in the Those Other Books series. In my review of One In Between I wrote: “I do hope there will be a Liam, Marcus and Luke story.” And what do you know? Not only did I get my wish, but the story I wished for surpassed all my (very high) hopes and expectations.

Like all of Roe’s characters Liam, Marcus, and Luke feel deeply, love fervently, and enjoy sex/make love with a burning passion. This author always takes his readers deep into his main characters. Not a thought is hidden or vague, every feeling is described in terms that awaken the same emotions in the reader. It’s impossible not to feel Marcus’s need, Luke’s desperation, or Liam’s occasional (and uncharacteristic) doubt. The language allows the reader to emerge themselves in the story, lose themselves there, and find some much needed and deeply appreciated relief from the real world.

Few authors I know write sex with as much depth, feeling, and eroticism as Roe Horvat. The words ‘this story made my Kindle steam’ are a cliché and yet, that’s the only way I can describe it.  Every touch, and the reaction it elicits, is vivid to the point where the reader can almost experience them personally. There is no shame, sex is never dirty. Quite the opposite in fact. Touch, penetration, claiming, surrendering, are so much more than a hot act on these pages. They describe the growing feelings between these three men with maybe more clarity than their thoughts and words do. In each other, in their shared passion and release they find each other as well as themselves and it’s a beautiful sight.

Not that this novella is ‘just’ a sex-filled romp. Becoming a throple is always going to be more complicated than two people coming together. When two of the three have been an established and happy couple for a decade before their third enters the relationship, it only makes things more fraught. And yet, while there certainly was some concern on Luke’s part about being the ‘odd one out’, when these three men come together it heralds the end of their angst rather than the start. Not that all concerns instantly vanished, as if by the magic of peen’, but once these men open up to each other (in more ways than one) and start talking, the stomach-churning disquiet, eased both for the characters and for me. And the moment Luke fully realizes he’s found happiness had tears stinging my eyes.

I could go on…and on…and on… But, in the end all that matters is that with Third One, Roe Horvat once again delivered a beautifully written story about men finding their perfect happy-ever-after. The fact that he also managed to push me out of my reading funk is a very welcome bonus. Not for the first time I highly recommend this book by a wonderful and favourite author.

“It all began and ended with Liam. Without Liam, his love for Marcus made no sense. By giving himself to Liam, he was redeemed.” – Luke

It’s been more than a year since Adam first stayed over in Christoffer’s home. Their home. In the safety of Christoffer’s love, Adam has gained strength and confidence. So when Christoffer’s friend Tyler crosses the line, flirting outrageously and forcing his shameless self onto them—even into Adam’s dreams—Adam can easily handle him. To Christoffer’s great amusement, Tyler’s mind gets blown.

One in Between features characters from Those Other Books. It explores the development of Adam and Christoffer’s sexual relationship.

Review

“In Adam’s mind, it was the total submission he craved, the most he could offer, the farthest he could go.”

One In Between is a wonderful, short, intermezzo set after the events in Adam Only but before those in The Other Book. And it’s nothing short of inspired, breath taking, and ridiculously hot.

Few characters I’ve read are as beautiful as Adam during sex. The way he feels, surrenders, gives his all is mesmerizing. In fact, as much as I loved the sex scenes, what I really adored about this story is how it showed how much Adam has grown and the confidence he’s gained now he safely and firmly belongs to and is with Christoffer.

But, I’m inclined to think this scene was also the turning point for Tyler. I like to think that it was seeing Adam and Christoffer together and the total trust between them that started Tyler on the road toward wanting more than hot encounters.

In this book however, you could almost describe Tyler as Adam’s sex toy, under Christoffer’s direction. And, as I may have mentioned before, the encounter is out of this world hot.

“Tyler was invited because Christoffer wanted to fulfil every single one of his beloved boy’s fantasies. Adam was his priority and Tyler was going to respect it.

Before I conclude this review, I want to add that I admire Roe Horvat. He has an amazing ability to bring characters to life with what feels like very few words. His characters grow and fully reveal themselves even when more than half the story is a sex scene. And they have depth, and crawl into your head and heart, making you yearn for more.

Talking about more, I do hope there will be a Liam, Marcus and Luke story.

Long story short: One In Between is proof that a love story can be erotic and that the label ‘erotica’ doesn’t necessarily mean lack of romance. This book is deliciously sexy and thoroughly romantic. True love doesn’t come much more beautiful than this.

It was supposed to be just sex... Famous last words.

Tyler doesn't overthink pleasure and avoids complications. He knows it might be stupid to get involved with his closeted boss, but the temptation is too great. At first, the cold and beautiful Joel Sandstrom seems to loathe Tyler's guts.

Except one late night at the office, his reasons become clear...and his control breaks.

Every time they touch, Joel's stony face comes alive, harsh lines smooth out, and for a minute, he looks serene. Happy, even. Just sex - dirty, intense, spectacular sex.

During their covert encounters, Tyler discovers the power he has over the lonesome man, and it's a heady feeling. What if he could set Joel free and give him peace of mind? When Tyler realizes how much Joel needs him, he doesn't regret breaking his own rules.

Review

Let me start my review by saying that this is the first (but certainly won’t be the last) book I’ve read by Roe Horvat. Therefore, while I know that the reason he titled this ‘The Other Book’ is because it is unlike his previous publications, I can’t comment about the accuracy of that statement or on how it compares to those earlier stories.

Having said all that, I didn’t need to know anything about this author to realize, within the first few pages, that I was, at the very least, going to enjoy this book. From the very first paragraph the writing is smooth and engaging; it picked me up, dropped me straight into the story and kept me captive there until I’d finished.

The blurb tells us that this is a gay erotic romance, and, on one level, that’s exactly what The Other Book is; a hot story about men who can’t keep their hands (and other body parts) off each other. But, if you think the word ‘erotic’ indicates that there isn’t a solid, well-plotted, and fascinating story-line in this book, you’d be wrong. There is a lot of story here, and some of it will break your heart, before putting it back together again.

I’ve been thinking about this and I feel that a good alternative title for this book would have been ‘The Other Man’. No, not because first Tyler on his own and later Tyler and Joel together engage in sex with another couple. What struck me when I read this story was that Joel by the end of the book is a completely different man from the character we (think) we meet when the story starts. And, in a less dramatic way, the same can be said for Tyler.

Which brings me to the amount of enticing and fabulously worded sex we encounter on these pages. Sex is what Joel needs, first because it acts as a sort of release valve, allowing him to stay in the closet and later because it gives him…. But no, if you want to know more, you’ll just have to get the book and read it.

Long review short: The Other Book is an exquisitely written, very special, and highly erotic story that is about a whole lot more than ‘just’ sex.

Picture Perfect Cowboy by Tiffany Reisz - Release Day Review

The Original Sinners #10

Publisher: 8th Circle Press

296 Pages

Blurb

Jason "Still" Waters' life looks perfect from the outside—money, fame, and the words "World Champion Bull-Rider" after his name. But Jason has a secret, one he never planned on telling anybody...until he meets Simone. She's the kinky girl of his dreams...and his conservative family's worst nightmare.

"Picture Perfect Cowboy" is a standalone erotic romance from Tiffany Reisz, set in her bestselling Original Sinners series. An abridged version was previously published in
"Exposed: A Romance Anthology" as the novella "The Watermark."

Review

“With Simone, he lost all his inhibitions, and he had to say, he didn’t miss them one bit.”

Picture Perfect Cowboy is pretty much a picture perfect book. Romantic and incredibly sexy, this story manages to also be a lot of light-hearted fun considering it is centered on pure kink. And then, of course, there were those one or two moments that brought (happy) tears to my eyes. Yes, ‘perfect’ is the appropriate word alright.

Picture the scene. On one side you’ll find your cowboy, a former bull-rider, all male and, apparently, in full control of his life and yet deeply ashamed of his fantasies when it comes to women. On the opposite side you have Simone, a professional submissive who has long since left any trace of shame about who and what she is behind. Their worlds are miles apart yet the attraction between them is instant and undeniable.

In fact, it’s fair to say that our cowboy is somewhat out of his depth next to the very experienced Simone. He may have fantasized about dominating a woman for a long time (and have felt guilty about those fantasies for just as long), but that doesn’t stop him from being horrified when he discovers he’s broken Simone’s skin and has drawn (a miniscule amount of) blood. It takes Simone talking sense to calm him down again:

“If you want to respect women, respect the real woman in front of you, not some fake fantasy idea of what women are supposed to be like.”

From that moment forward it is almost smooth sailing all the way. Almost… Because the believe system that Jason has been bullied into over twenty-nine years can’t be destroyed in four short days. Not even when he’s been able to be his true self for the first time in his life during those four wonderful days. Not even when he knows he’s fallen…hard and, not even when he knows those feelings are returned.

The crisis, when it hits is harsh and, thankfully, short-lived. What’s more, it was necessary drama. Without it even I, who hates angst with a vengeance, would have said this story was too much…too easy. As it is, this is pretty much an insta-love sorta romance that works perfectly. I never doubted that this was the meeting of two souls who were meant to be together. The conflict and the way in which it was resolved again, only emphasized the rightness of Jason and Simone’s connection.

Of course this wouldn’t be an Original Sinners story without Nora and Søren. While they don’t feature on the page a lot, they shine whenever they do and Nora, as always, is good for a few comments and one-liners that made me grin from ear to ear. Such as the following text exchange between Simone and Nora:

““That’s not helping,” Simone replied. “I’m trying not to fall in love with him.”
“If he’s nice, sexy, and knows how to spank, what’s stopping you?”
Fair question.

What I love about Tiffany Reisz’s Original Sinners series is that while her characters would agree that sex is serious business, there’s always the emphasis on fun. No matter how hard the domination or how total the submission, regardless of pain inflicted, there’s always humor, always a lighthearted moment or comment to keep the scene from getting too intense. And I think it’s in those light-hearted moments that I fall for these characters the hardest.

The blurb on Amazon describes this book as: ‘the perfect jumping-on point for new readers! And I agree. This book gives you a wonderful taste of the world the Original Sinners live in and shows off Tiffany Reisz’s wonderful voice in the best possible. Having said that. In the Original Sinners series the stories hide layers upon layers of under the surface intrigue that doesn’t reveal itself until the very end. Picture Perfect Cowboy is a simpler story, without hidden meanings and secrets lurking in the background, which is exactly how this story needs to be told. I guess this is a gentle introduction to the magical, kinky, and utterly enthralling world that is The Original Sinners’ universe.

This book ends with a free bonus short story called "Flogging 101" wherein Professor Søren and Mistress Nora give Jason a flogging lesson and Nora has the opportunity to show both Jason and the reader why she’s such a remarkable and delightful character.

““If you break her heart, they’ll never find your body.”
Jason swallowed. “I guess you know people”, Jason said, trying not to look terrified. Mistress Nora seemed like the sort of gal who knew “people.”
“No,” she said. “I am people.”

Long story short. Picture Perfect Cowboy is a delightful, incredibly sexy, yet at times deeply touching story. It once again reinforces Tiffany Reisz’s position as the queen of kink in my universe. Her place at the top of my insta-buy, must-read authors’ list also remains intact.

Blurb

When Shawn’s best mate Dave breaks up with his girlfriend, Shawn tries not to get his hopes up. After all, Dave’s still straight, right? Wrong. Dave reveals he’s bisexual, and that pounding you hear is Shawn’s heart. He’s loved Dave for so long, but he’s not about to jeopardize their friendship by telling Dave how he really feels.

But when Dave discovers Shawn’s little kink, it opens up a whole new chapter for the two friends. Except Shawn can’t help but worry – if there was no kink, would Dave be there? And is Shawn brave enough to find out?

A standalone short story of lust, lace – and love…

Review

Now here’s a truly endearing friends to lovers story for you.

Shawn and Dave have been best friends forever. What Dave doesn’t know, because Shawn has made very sure to keep it a secret, is that his best friend has been in love with him since they were teenagers. And why would Shawn have told him? Dave is straight and Shawn knows that opening his mouth would only result in complicating, if not ending, a friendship he treasures.

Except that Dave is not quite as straight as he and Shawn always assumed. Recently Dave has found himself attracted to the man he’s always loved as a friend. But surely that’s not something you just blurt out. After all, Shawn only sees Dave as a friend, doesn’t he?

When Dave stumbles across Shawn’s hidden collection of sexy lingerie, the floodgates are opened and hidden passions are acted upon in the most enticing way. But Dave still needs to get used to his newly discovered sexuality and Shawn can’t shake the feeling that Dave is only into him because of the kinky underwear.

This is a typical case of if only the two of them had been less stereotypically male, if they’d actually opened their mouths and shared their thoughts, doubts, and feelings with each other, a lot of angst could have been avoided. But both of them fear that total honesty might result in alienating the other and destroying a friendship they value too much to risk.

Things need to come to ahead before Shawn and Dave can find the happily ever after they so obviously deserve. The journey they undertake to get to that point is somewhat naughty, extremely sexy, at times laugh out loud funny, and not without a few tugs on the heartstrings.

For such a short story all characters, including the secondary ones, were very well developed. And I have to mention once more that this author writes mothers very, very well. The writing, as always from K.C. Wells, is so smooth the story almost reads itself and I dare anyone to pick this novella up and not finish it in one sitting.

Lace is a pure delight for anybody who enjoys a cute and sexy story featuring two endearing young men. Enjoy!

Three Shots by Brigham Vaughn - Release Day Review

Title: Three Shots

Author Name: Brigham Vaughn

Blurb:

Reeve Jenkins is an amateur musician playing in a dive bar. Grant McGuire is a man drowning his sorrows in beer after a painful breakup. When Reeve charms a reluctant Grant into coming home with him, they begin a three-year friendship with some very nice benefits.
But when the two gorgeous men walk into Hawk Point Tavern—the bar Rachael Bradford owns—one evening and greet each other with a kiss, it sets off a chain of events that leads to a steamy night and maybe something more for the trio.

Excerpt:

Rachael sighed and took a seat at her desk, forcing Reeve and Grant from her mind. They made for a fun fantasy, but had no place in real life. She had hours of work to do, and not enough time to get it done in. Hawk Point Tavern didn’t run itself.
She tackled the paychecks first. Her employees would want checks to cash soon, and it couldn’t wait. Thankfully, she had few employees and it didn’t take overly long to tally hours and make out the checks. She had moved on to sorting order invoices for the month when she heard a soft knock on her partially open door. Thinking it was Jenna or Tyler—the other bartender on tonight—she absent-mindedly called out, “Come in.”
“Excuse me,” a low, sexy voice replied.
Rachael’s head shot up and she was startled to see Reeve peering in the door.
“I, uh, hey. Um, hi Reeve,” She stuttered. She cleared her throat. “Come in.”
He stepped into the room and pushed the door nearly closed. “Can I talk to you for a sec?”
“Uh, sure.” She frowned, puzzled by what he wanted, but not entirely displeased to have him in her office either. She stood and walked around the desk—leaning back against it and looking up to meet his gaze. “Is there a problem with your bill? Or something else I can help you with?”
He gave her a slow, sexy smirk. “I certainly hope so.”
Rachael stared at him, waiting for him to continue, but he was silent. His gaze raked over her body and she felt heat building between her legs at the slow, frank perusal of her body. By the glittering, heated gaze of his eyes, Rachael could see that he liked what he saw. Her jeans and t-shirt were hardly high fashion, but Reeve didn’t appear to have any complaints. Besides, Rachael knew she had a tight body and the jeans showed off her ass nicely.
“What can I help you with?” she asked, her voice breathless.
“Well you see, I came here looking to have a drink with a good friend, nothing more, but I found something else I am interested in.”
‘I’m … I’m sorry?”
Reeve stepped closer until he was just a foot from her, and she felt her heart speed up in her chest.
“What’s that?” Rachael repeated when he didn’t reply immediately.
“You.” The word was simple, but it did nothing to clear up her confusion.
“But … but what about Grant?” she asked. “I mean, it looked like you two were together, and I—I don’t want to cause any problems or get in the way of anything.”
Reeve moved so he was standing in front of her, booted feet on either side of her crossed ones. He leaned in, breathing softly against her cheek and she wet her lips reflexively.
“It’s pretty simple actually,” Reeve purred in her ear. “Grant and I hook up occasionally and we are both very attracted to you.” His lips brushed the sensitive outer shell and she shivered.
Bi then. Her experiences with Tom made her a little leery of bi guys, but it’s not like she was going to get involved with them beyond a quick—or maybe not so quick—roll in the sheets, she thought. This was a one-off. It wasn’t like she was going to see them after tonight so she might as well enjoy it while she had the opportunity.
“You aren’t in a relationship with him?” she said aloud. The last thing she wanted was to get involved with another cheater. Jonah had been more than enough, thankyouverymuch.
Reeve shrugged. “We’ve been friends for a long time, but it’s nothing exclusive. We keep things fluid.”
“So how would this work?” Rachael asked, her voice going a little breathless as she imagined what could play out if she said yes. “We’d have a threesome?”
“That is entirely up to you. If you’re only attracted to one of us, the other will step aside, although we’d both be very disappointed. And I somehow don’t think that’s the case, is it?”
“No, I’m definitely attracted to you both,” Rachael admitted. Reeve wrapped an arm around her lower back and pulled her flush against his body.
“Then how we fuck—” he skimmed a hand down her back to cup the lower curve of her ass “—is up for negotiation. Whatever you’re comfortable with.”

My Review:

“Love doesn't have to be limiting.  It should only expand who you are, and make you feel free”

I’m not sure how a story as hot as Three Shots can be both deliciously enticing and incredibly adorable at the same time, but this story has both those qualities in spades.

This is an erotic tale. While there is definitely more to the story than ‘just’ sex, there is plenty of it and both the relationships and the story develop mainly through these incredibly hot encounters between characters.

And when I say ‘hot’, I mean HOT.

Some might say that this story is unrealistic, that these three lovers open up to each other with far too much ease for people who’ve only just met, and while that may well be the case, I have to admit that to me it was a pure delight. In too many books (for my liking) at the core of any issue is the fact that the MCs refuse to talk to each other. Situations that could easily have been avoided if one or the other had just given voice to what was on their mind, grow huge and create drama. While that is sometimes realistic and occasionally even works, it is something I’m not fond of. It was therefore delightful to read a book in which the characters do open up to each other, explain what they think and feel, and subsequently deal with whatever the issue is.

There were a few things in this book I hugely appreciated. It is a wonderful surprise to read a book featuring bisexual characters without their orientation being ‘the’ or ‘a’ major plotline. Just as it is a rare but fabulous experience to read an MMF story in which the female is at least as strong as the male character(s). In fact, you could well say that if anybody has the upper hand in this story it’s Rachael.

The easy, uncomplicated, and near perfect coming together of first Reeve and Grant and then the two men and Rachael gave Three Shots a fairytale like quality. It’s a dream; how we would script our own perfect love story in an ideal world. This is a drama-free tale. While the characters have their, not always happy, back-stories, there is virtually no angst in this book. And sometimes that’s exactly what I need from my reading. It’s a perfect escape. If the story is also well written, happens to feature charming and fascinating characters, and gives me some of the hottest sex scenes I’ve read recently, it is safe to say I’ve found my personal Nirvana.

If you hadn’t guessed as much from what I’ve written above, let me make myself perfectly clear here: Three Shots comes highly recommended if you enjoy a well written, captivating, and extremely sexy story.
